The City Parks Foundation was founded in 1989 in order to support the majority of
New York City parks that lack access to private funding and resources. Aiming to revitalize the parks but more importantly the neighborhoods and communities that
surround them, the foundation creates many different activities including arts, sports and educational programs in the more than 700 public New York City parks thereby
encouraging community development within the public parks. More than 600,000 New Yorkers are involved in the various activities each year, The Foundation's programs and community-building initiatives contribute to and drive the renewal of entire neighborhoods throughout New York City, with a particular focus on some of NY's most undeveloped and less affluent areas. The City Parks Foundation partners with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation in all of its activities improving neighborhood parks and the communities they serve.
