ABOUT CONNIE... Connie is one of the blessed folk who has the pleasure of blending her passion for music with her love of teaching to Inspire, Illuminate & Invite singers and ‘not yet’ singers to awaken their voices in her private voice and piano studio. PERSONAL HISTORY: Connie was born into a musical family and has been singing and performing since the age of three. In high school, Connie won numerous vocal competitions at the state and regional levels. At the age of 16, she performed before an audience of 5,000 and received the award for Best Talent with her vocal/piano piece. In college, she sang at the campus coffeehouses, countless weddings & other special events. Connie also understands many hard issues that professional singers can face. Being 'hard of hearing' since birth (hearing in only one ear) and having experienced vocal cord paresis caused by a viral infection (for you curious types, that would be: Superior Laryngeal Nerve Paresis, right side) which resulted in stiffness & compensatory functional dysphonia. This was all complicated further with a diagnosis of GERD (reflux), Hypothyroidism and Vocal Fold Hemorrhages.
Her lengthy personal journey of healing her own voice to bring it back to full function with more range & better tonal quality than existed prior to the injuries, honed Connie's skills as a teacher who can hear, see & feel what is going on in someone's voice. You don't need years of lessons-you need to know & understand your voice, have solid technique under you, and learn lots of healthy vocal options for your "GIG BAG" of vocal tricks! STYLES: Connie loves to sing in several styles including: pop, blues, jazz, R&B, Gospel, soft rock, folk, country and Musical Theatre (Belt & Legit). On piano, Connie reads and plays by ear to "piander' her way through a variety of styles including contemporary tunes, new age, boogie, jazz, classical-& whatever else students bring to their lessons! EDUCATION: Connie holds a BA in Social Work, a MS degree in Education; Advanced Certification in Breath Therapy; a Certificate of Voiceworks Method & Pedagogy of Styles Training; college-level coursework in Piano Pedagogy; AND a PhD in Patience & Rehab from the Renoun School of Hard Knocks {Vocal Cord Paresis (viral infection); GERD; Thyroid Dysfunction} .
