It is believed that people with chronic back pain have abnormal perimuscular connective tissue structure and biomechanics. The components of connective tissue are bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and muscles. Physical force is produced in the muscles to create movement in the joints, the cartilage and tendons act as shock absorbers. Exercises like weight training have a positive effect on bone and connective tissue biomechanics and chemistry. Exercise improves musculoskeletal integrity, while eccentric strengthening exercises and core stabilizing exercises can reduce incidents of muscular strain and injury.
