Try screencast-o-matic.com Also, Mr. Smits recommended Snap-Z (Macintosh), and I notice it has a free trial. I recommend you host your video file with either YouTube, TeacherTube, or Blip.tv Should be ready at start of class: * Read RSS for Educators, Hendron pages 1-67. This will be the basis for the first reflection. * wiki page added / developed * major project idea(s) Based on student interests in media and instruction, as well as current role, students will select one new or existing media, instructional tool, or piece of software to thoroughly evaluate and summarize findings. * First reflection done & sent to Instructor (share with abornemath@googlemail.com)Sorry for the confusion on this first assignment. I have more clearly defined the assignment. How we will use our time We will have a lab. We will discuss the readings from last week for 30-45 minutes, and use the rest of the time to work on efolio, since everyone has an account, we will focus on adding content, so please bring artifacts. I will give a training on how to work within the eFolio environment, and be on hand to answer questions. See my wiki page for the 6 outcomes. Assignments for next week: Read Christensen text, chapters 1 & 2 (pages 1-70) Week 3, March 25, 2010 (Online Class)
Email sent on 25-March, early afternoon CLICK HERE if you didn't read it.
Due for Today: Reflection #2, based on readings from Christensen text. The reflection is only on Chapter 2. 4 quotes from the text, about 1 page.
Theme: "we all teach each other." 10 Minutes max per person. Online teaching to the group. My own lesson to the group will be how to use the tools of the online software, Adobe Connect Pro. What? How? Microphone, headphone are required. I recommend a mouse rather than a touch pad. Design a Microsoft PowerPoint lesson (.ppt or .pptx files are okay) or whiteboard, to be presented online: Ideas: a short lesson on a single concept, an introduction of yourself for parents or students, an overview of a unit, supplemental material to a lesson, a departmental "how to" or professional development presentation. Not sure about your idea? Run it by me. Your lesson may also be entirely on the whiteboard if you choose. PowerPoint files can have animations, and motion paths. I'm not sure about embedded mp3 files for sounds, and I'm fairly sure embedded video will not work. PowerPoint files will be uploaded by you to the Adobe Connect Pro environment and converted to a Flash format which will function very similar to the real thing, meaning forward, backward arrows, -space- bar to activate animations, etc. A two megabyte powerpoint file takes about 30-40 seconds to upload and convert. You may speak to the class using your microphone and lecture over your slides. You may do informal assessments via the Chat pod or the Poll pod. Here is a brief (less than 7 minutes) screencast of the basics of using Adobe Connect Pro: Here Where: Web Address: http://livelesson.connectionsacademy.com/borne When Time: 5:00pm Assignments for next week: Read Christensen text, chapter 3 Week 4, April 8th, 2010 Due for Today: Reflection #3 How we will use our time * Check-in regarding ITR project. Questions & Answers. * discussion about the online class of March 25th. - what you found interesting - what you didn't like - what you would improve * discussion of Reflection #3 Please print and have for class: discussion questions Reflection #4 will be released soon...I'm thinking of making this a reflection based on tonight's discussion. Week 5, April 15th, 2010 (Online) Extended Due Date- Reflection #4 is due next week. Tentative plan: work session on ITR project. Use the evening to collaborate with your ITR partner to prepare / polish your presentation. No meeting online, nor meeting at school. Week 6, April 22, 2010 Due: Reflection #4. How we will use our time Round 1 of presentations of ITR Kelly H, Miranda and Polly will be presenting this night.
'd like to start thinking about April 22nd. It is my hope that we will accomplish two things: 1) work-time, collaboration 2) presentation of 2 of the 5 groups. I'd like to do the ITR presentations first (the above list is in no particular order) The work time will be a good time to work in small groups, or as individuals. I'll be on hand for those pesky technical issues such as creating screen casts, uploading, file size issues, chart-making issues, etc. In aggregate, Cohort 309 knows everything, but no single person knows it all. We'll use the time to share with each other and finish up any remaining items. I note that Polly and Miranda will not be able to attend the last class of April 29th, so their groups will be delivering their ITR presentations this week. I want there to be a Q&A session following each presentation, and perhaps some group discussion. It is my opinion that a topic has really ht the mark when there is some debate and friendly disagreement. The ITR score rubric doesn't have points for that, but all the same, it's good to question assumptions we hold about technology and education. I would also like to make sure everyone is aware of their scores thus far. I've been working on them and my goal is to send you a small excel file with that information. One component is my evaluation of your eFolio. If your efolio link is not posted, that's fine, but I'll need to view your eFolio once simply to make sure you have met some or all of the requirements for that section of the Web 2.0 footprint assignment. Questions? Please write/call. Those of you who are busy with State MCAs, as I am, I wish you and your students high scores and good luck. Week 7, April 29th, 2010 (Last Class)
Your final reflection should be in the works. It is to be posted in your webpage wiki for all to see.
Here is the assignment: See your three options here
It is my hopes that you will all read each other's work and comment, but please understand I am not requiring you to comment on each other's final reflection. This is more of a massive group-share opportunity. It does not have to be any particular length. As I'm sure some of your former teachers have said, "let it be long enough to clearly communicate your ideas, and not one extra word."
This is due by the end of the last class date. How we will use our time Round 2 of presentations of ITR |
