I grew up on a farm in southwest North Dakota and attended a grade school that had as many students in grades 1-8 as I currently have in one class period at Johnson High School.  I moved to St. Paul in the fall of 1990 to attend college and stayed after I graduated.  I was hired in the fall of 1995 at Johnson High School and originally taught U.S. History.  In the 14 years I have been at JH S, I have taught U.S. Citizenship, American Government, U.S. History, World History and Human Geography.  Human Geography is the course I have the most experience teaching and have created different Human Geographies for students in various smaller learner academies.

Below is an example of how I evaluate assignments.  I often color code written assignments so students can see how they have done on a standards connected assignment and then see what they can do differently to improve their assignment.

Welcome Rebecca. Someone with your experience and insight with multiple cultures will be very helpful in this class. I'm thinking you didn't drive at age 9, am I right?

Polly Tabbert - Mar 14, 2010 6:29 PM

Rebecca I'm guessing you could have a sister named Jessica possibly not the Jessica Biel model/actress. Knowing you're a farmer's daughter you were driving by age 9 and had a number of chore responsibilities. My guess is you haven't been to 49 states even though geography is a passion.

Good to have you back, Rebecca! I hoped you enjoyed your time off. I am thinking along the same lines as Polly...you haven't been to 49 states.

Hi Rebecca, good to have you back I like the Madison quote!

I think that you did drive at age 9, and if you did I want to hear the story.

Kate Berger - Mar 17, 2010 8:51 PM

I would also like to hear about the driving at age 9 story... I don't think this is your lie :) Glad to have you back in class!

I did start driving at age 9 helping my dad haul bales. My sister is Jessica Biel, just not that Jessica Biel. She gets weird phone calls every so often.

Rebecca, your page looks great - to answer your question, I used the screencast-o-matic link from the weekly plan page and then uploaded it to teachertube since we cant use youtube at Hastings.

Henry Smits - Apr 28, 2010 11:43 AM

Rebecca, what a great screen cast google earth very nice I might need to use that for my Qcom.

Rebecca I agree that developing a wiki/content page to continue the communication community of the learning academy will go along way to reinforce learnings. You will find it a helpful tool to efficiently and effectively facilitate learning and communication between you, the students and parent/guardians. I’m glad you have the summer to explore and refine the possibilities of read-write technology. Best Wishes.
