Here is my Web 2.0 Reflection:

In this class, I have been exposed to many things I had heard of before, but never quite knew what they were.  One such term is Web 2.0 which I now know means interactive web and I feel fairly comfortable using Web 2.0 tools.  One example of those tools are Wikis which I didn’t know anything about.  Now, I know how valuable of a tool it can become in a classroom to aid in communication and instruction. I also was exposed to Google Docs.  This is a great tool to ease collaboration and allow for easier group work on presentations.  The online session where we taught each other something was really interesting.  I know if I needed to do so again, I would be able to although I don’t know that I would use it.

As far as using these tools in my teaching, I think that a Wiki is the most likely.  I like the idea of an interactive class site where students can go and get materials, ask questions of me or other classmates and get help quickly.  I also like the idea of parents having another way to communicate with me.  I can get announcements out quickly or they can keep more on top of their student.  I don’t know if Google Docs would work for me as I teach math and could see it being a problem doing their assignments in Google Docs, but I would be interested in looking into it for project use potentially.

Have you taught older or younger groups? I know you said that you have taught a variety of topics, but I don't remember to which age groups.

Thanks guys. I think he's pretty cute too. Courteney, I teach 7-12 math. 2 hours of 7th grade, 2 hours of Alg 1 (mostly 9th and 10th) and 1 hour of Alg 2 (mostly 10-11th).

Kelly,
In your final reflection you mentioned not knowing much about Google Docs. Honestly, I did not know about them either. I do see how they could be very useful for our students and for us as students too. I don't really think I will be able to keep up with current trends in tech, but I think this class has opened my eyes to pieces that I could use in my classroom.

Kelly--we have to find a document, program or something, in which you can see the math work. If it's not available, then we need to invent it and become million.. billionaires! Keep working with the technology. I'm certain you will become more comfortable with how to place it in you classroom. I think using screen-casts to reiterate, re-teach, or initially teach students who were absent is an excellent idea. Good luck. I know you've had a rough few weeks. Keep your head up!! Take care! : )

Kelly I do believe you will find using your school’s web page an extremely helpful technology tool to reinforce your teaching. Especially, communicating understandings with students & parent/guardians. I believe the key to using a web page/wiki is developing a plan/format of organization or communication that complements your personality and teaching style. I might suggest checking out Eagan High’s Mathematic page. http://www.rschooltoday.com/eaganhs. General pages of the Math dept. i.e. algebra I & II, geometry, etc are available under the Academics tab. What I think you will find most helpful is how Math teachers uses their ‘home page’ to reinforce instruction and communication. Under the Mathematics dept. check out a variety of home page personalities. There are a variety of examples. Good luck.

Kelly, you are right about students using what we put out there for good to subvert it to there own
