Hello, I'm Dr. Tania Smith, instructor of COMS 463: Advanced Professional and Technical Communication,  a course at the University of Calgary. If you are a visitor to this site, see About COMS 463

Our course's service-learning website project in Winter 2010 was to create the best website content & designs for a student website on community service-learning (CSL) at the University of Calgary.

The content of students' websites (listed in the upper right corner) consists largely of journalistic articles based on 1) interviews and 2) reviews of former CSL students' assignments that were formally donated to us for publication.

We started by profiling Arts faculty people, projects & partnerships, but we also interviewed CSL students and instructors from several other faculties: Haskayne school of Business, Education, Social Work, and Engineering to name a few.

About Us

Our Instructional Team consisted of

  • Dr. Tania Smith (instructor)
  • Carmen Groza (Learning Coach)
  • Buffy St-Amand and Zoe Fleming
    (Volunteer Calgary)
  • Erin Kaipainen (University of Calgary)

The service-learning project was carried out by 5 teams of 4-5 students each led by student Editorial Coordinators enrolled in the course: Bryan, Heather, Jen, Kristen, Michele and Natasha.

Dr. Smith has taught many of her courses using service-learning methods since 2003, in courses COMS 363, 463, GNST 313, and GNST 507/509This was her 6th time guiding a service-learning website development or usability testing project, but the first time using Google Sites & Wordpress Blogs.
