About Us

First and foremost, I am the mother of two beautiful children. This has been and always will be my most inspired and challenging job. I had an idea about the kind of parent I wanted to be - kind, understanding and supportive while even-handed and firm. I had no idea how to do this and it definitely wasn't the cultural norm. I read every book I could get my hands on and set out to create my own parenting style. For more than 15 years, I have studied awareness and communication models based in responsibility and collaboration and have applied what I learned in my own living room laboratory. These essential skills have helped my family stay connected and thrive through divorce, disappointments and various disasters. As my two little guinea pigs and I continue to refine our skills, we continue to grow in our individual pursuits as well as in our connection and love for each other.

My name is Jamie Anderson. I offer communication classes, parenting support groups and individual consulting designed to build connection with the children we love. I am a key member of the program development and facilitation team at the Institute for Collaborative Communication. ICC is dedicated to teaching communication skills to educational communities - training teachers, administrators, parents and the children. Being an avid writer, ICC program materials contain many of my personal anecdotes illustrating the application of the Collaborative Communication model into real time parenting. Other parenting stories that illustrate effective parent/child communication can be found in Mothering Magazine. The Lamorinda Weekly and The Piedmont Post. Many of these articles can be accessed through this site with the hope that they will be helpful to you.

Communicating2connect originated from an idea to share the value of mindful communication with my local community. Adding effective communication and awareness skills to my parenting toolkit benefitted me, my children and beyond! These skills are helpful in any interpersonal relationship - at work, with a co-parent, the plumber or even with your own parents! I set out on this journey to take better care of the impact I have on my children and I discovered that everyone around me was pleasantly affected. I invite you to join me in this creative, collaborative adventure!
