Reading Comics

Get out there on the internet and read some comics!  While you read, take careful note from comic to comic of differences in style, length, use of dialogue or lack thereof, plot and character types, the concept of time (sequential or non-sequential), tone (are all comics humorous?), aspects of layout, such as fonts, colors, speech bubbles, arrangement of panels, and the direction that the comic should be read (left to right, right to left, top to bottom, etc.).  There are many subgenres and different formats of comics with completely different identifying characteristics, so make sure to research at least a few different types of comics.  Also, be responsible in your comic reading and use good judgment as to whether the comic is appropriate to be reading at school.

You can find comics through the sites listed below or you can find your own---just be sure to read lots of comics!

Many of the comics you'll find on the internet are known as Webcomics, also known as online comics and internet comics.  They are comics that are available to read on the Internet. Many are exclusively published online, while some are published in print but maintain a web archive for either commercial or artistic reasons. With the Internet's easy access to an audience, webcomics run the gamut from traditional cartoon strips to graphic novels and have covered many different genres and subjects.

Webcomics are similar to self-published print comics in that almost anyone can create their own webcomic and publish it on the Web. There are over 18,000 webcomics currently online with very few of them being financially self-sustaining.

After you've read a bunch of comics, post your three new favorite comics on the wiki on the Favorite Comics page and detail the genre(s), format, and elements of each.  Explain why you picked each comic.
