Rules, Regulations, and Policies

COMBS BASEBALL

TEAM RULES, REGULATIONS AND POLICIES

 

I.                    General

1.       Avoid illegal activities such as drinking or being in the presence of alcohol beverages, use of nonprescription drugs, abuse of prescription drugs, stealing or vandalizing public or private property, etc.

2.       Use appropriate language only.  Avoid profanity or vulgar language.

3.       Respect coaches and umpires.  Always approach disagreements with adults with respect.

4.       Be on time to practice and games.  Tardiness is not accepted.  Three tardies will constitute one absence.

5.       Be in attendance.  There are no excused absences, only unavoidable ones such as a documented doctor’s appointment or legal matter.  Forty-eight hour advance written notice from a parent or legal guardian is required to be excused for such matters.  Three absences will result is suspension from the team and possible recommendation for removal.

6.       Maintain hair so it does not hang down in the eyes, touch the back of the collar, or hang over the ears. 

7.       If a player quits, is released from the team, or fails to finish the season for any reason, except medical, he will turn in all issued items.

8.       All players will dress as follows:

a.       Hats will be worn with the visor facing forward

b.      Shirts and uniform tops will be tucked in at all times.
c.    Baseball pants, team t-shirt, hat, socks, and cleats are required for practice.

9.       There is no guaranteed playing time.  Playing time will be determined by skill level, attitude, and attendance at practice, in addition to what is best for the team.

10.   Players are expected to address academic and athletic concerns with teachers and coaches before involving parents.

II.                  Field Conduct

1.       Hustle!  Regardless of physical talent, everyone has the ability to hustle.

2.       Take care of job responsibilities.  Pre-practice jobs must be done before practice starts. Post-practice and game jobs must be done before any team member is excused.

3.       Full concentration of players is expected during games and practice.  Game and practice time is “team time.”  Talking to people not affiliated with the team during a game or practice is prohibited.

4.       Respect the game by showing respect for coaches, umpires, fans, and the opposing team.

5.       Control emotions by never outwardly displaying anger, disgust, disappointment, etc.  Uncontrolled emotion detracts from the game and hurts the team.

6.       Talk through positive actions.  Displays of unsportsmanlike conduct toward opposing teams or disrespect toward game officials will not be tolerated.

III.                School Conduct

1.       Address all coaches and teachers as Mr., Mrs., Miss, or Coach.

2.       Respond to teachers and other school officials with respect by avoiding arguments, disrespectful tones or any other inappropriate response.

3.       Be on time and in class at all times.  Do not be outside of class without permission.

4.       Act respectfully. Your reputation often times reflects that of the team.

5.       Avoid areas or circumstances that are “trouble”.

6.       Follow the rules in the student handbook.

7.       All players must maintain D’s or better to remain eligible.

IV.                Travel Conduct

1.       Bus conduct will be followed as dictated by the transportation department.

2.       Players are to conduct themselves in a manner of a great individual while visiting other locations.  We want our school, parents, and community to be proud of our players and baseball program.

3.       Dress appropriately.  Extreme apparel will not be allowed.

 

ALL DISCIPLINE WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE COACHING STAFF

Disciplinary action may consist of but not limited to:

                Extra conditioning

                Being sent home

                Benching

                Suspension from the team

                Dismissal from the team

PARENT/GUARDIAN AGREEMENT

 

I agree to:

·         Comment to players away from the field, never coaching or giving instructions to players, including my own child, during games or practices.

·         Keep comments about players of either team on the positive side, never openly expressing criticism for players or coaches of either team.

·         Make only positive comments to officials, never openly criticizing officials during a game.

·         Arrange for conversations with coaches about sensitive issues in a private setting, avoiding conversations in front of players.

·         Address issues in a prearranged meeting that does not interfere with coaching or teaching responsibilities.

·         Keep all language appropriate, never using derogatory or vulgar language during a game or practice.

·         Allow my child to try to work out concerns with the coach before getting directly involved.

·         Encourage my child to be the best team player that he can be.
