 E-Force is a student group at Collins Living Learning Center that works to educate Collins residents and other students about environmental issues and encourage residents to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives. E-force also works with the IU Griffy Lake Nature Reserve to maintain part of its trail systems. Every month we host events around a central environmental theme such as food waste, dirty energy, faith and environmentalism, etc... The programs may be guest speakers, film screenings, round table discussions of current environmental topics, camping trips, environmentally-themed field trips within and around the Bloomington area. We also collaborate closely with other environmental groups on campus such as Coal Free IU, Volunteers in Sustainability, and the Student Sustainability Council (it's all about the networking folks). The other part of E-force is more task-oriented, we are a force after all. We will focus on making long term changes for sustainability around the Collins residence halls. Current and future projects include: a community garden, cost/benefit analysis of hand dryers vs. paper towels, the utilization of biodegradable disposables in the dining hall, energy efficiency initiatives, establishment of compost system, etc... If you are interested in working towards sustainability, building meaningful relationships, networking with other environmentalists, and generally making this world a better place, then PLEASE attend our very informal and open meetings. Seriously, all are welcome! E-force is more communistic than bureaucratic, there is enough of that in the IU system already. In order to create real solutions to real problems, we need input from real people who represent our community! Come hang out with us! We meet every other Sunday at 3pm in the Ed basement classroom.
