July 2011:
The field archery course opened on 24th July where more experienced archers can shoot at targets within our wooded course, giving that extra level of challenge. Bookings now being taken - contact Mike Hedges.

May 2011:

The Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, dropped in - well not quite - flew in by helicopter and spent the afternoon at our campsite. Bear and his son tried some of the activities and left his paw print (signature) around the site. Many Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from around the Devon County met Bear and had their shirts signed and hands shaken. What a GRRRR8 day!!

Bear and some of the Young People of Devon County on our Assault Course

Bear Grylls at Collard Bridge Campsite, North Devon

January 2011:
Archery and Shooting shelters completed. Assault course just having the finishing touches and some test runs. Low ropes is well on its way. We have also reviewed the prices this year as the economic climate is hard on families and groups, so the camping prices per person per night have been frozen at 2010 prices or even lowered with our low season tariff. We are here to help and allow Young people to get the most out of life.

December 2010:
Archery and shooting shelters under construction and old ones being dismantled.
Plenty of Robins around for the Christmas and Winter period, even our pheasants are dashing around - they must be last minute shoppers or the ground is too cold to stand and squawk.

October 2010:

Well some of the wardens have been busy along with members of the Service Crew. We have the all new Assault Course under construction and we aim to be adding the finishing touches in November.

The indoors activity area is now clad and ready for our indoor climbing area to take groups with instructors on the wall if bad weather conditions prevent an outdoor session from running outside.

We have many campers this month they include Scouts from South Molton, Fremington, The Devon World Jamboree Contingent, Exeter Sea Scouts, Berkshire and more.

August 2010:

This has certainly been a busy month so far with Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, as well as Guides, coming from all over the UK to our site.

The Taw Explorer Scout Unit on 20-22nd August were busily transforming the Rendle Hut to create a more practical and functional building for the explorers, campers and other hirers of the HQ. Brilliant work Luke and the Gang.

July 2010:

  • New recycling system set up for end of July and August campers - see our rules section.
  • New seating and tables system in place for the new activity area.

May 2010:

  • We have been accepted as members of the Association of Scout and Guide Centres (ASGC).
  • Caving system developed further with even more obstacles - it is truly a Labyrinth.
  • A lovely seating area has been put in place at the top of our hill so you can sit and have a Scouts Own service, a circle time, just time to gather and chat or just to escape and admire the view. Enjoy. The wardens have already.
  • Chopping blocks now in each site where fire areas are.
  • Additional toilet block available for leaders only

April 2010:

  • Caving system complete
  • Meteorite spotted during evening of Friday 16th April 2010 - Green football sized glow with vivid yellow and white tail. Three Leaders, including one of our wardens saw this. WOW!!!
  • A new orienteering course is going in ready for end of May 2010.

Easter 2010:

  • Caving system nearly complete.
  • Bouldering wall ready
  • Activity Hut up

Late November 2009:

  • A new site 3 has been developed for all year round camping. This is suited for expedition style camps or camps consisting of just hike tents. It is in an elevated position and is quite tranquil. This will be available summer 2010 onwards.

Late October 2009:

  • Our tunnel system 'The Labyrinth' is well under way with construction. Shrek has certainly been busy.

  • Campsite conduct, rules and brochure are being reviewed
