SVA Modifications
- New steering wheel. 01/11/06
Finally I got rid of the large ugly steering wheel, and
replaced
it with a smaller light weight one. It makes such a big difference to
the overall look of the dash..

The sump sticks out below the underside of the car
and is
vulnerable to flying stones etc. So my Dad made an aluminium sump guard.

It will also help to keep the general road muck off the bottom of the
engine.

Finally got round to fitting a new set of wing mirrors, they
are a big improvement on the original ones.

Side repeaters. 10/03/07
While fitting the wing mirrors the scuttle had to be lifted up, so this
was a good opportunity to modify the side repeaters. The idea was to
make them easier to remove if the bulb needed to be changed. They are
held in with a plastic clip and double sided adhesive foam. So the clip
was removed and an aluminium plate was bonded to the back of the light.
A metal plate with M3 tapped holes was bonded to the inside of the
scuttle. The light could then be screwed into place, and is very easy
to remove. It also looks good with the polished surround.

Roll bar screen. 17/03/07
The initial idea behind this screen was to see if we could cut down the
amount of wind in the car. When we tested it the effect was only
slight, as the main problem is the wind swirling round the gap between
the ends of the side screens and the roll bar. To fill this gap in
would be impractical. Although the screen didn't reduce the wind very
much, we decided to keep it on as it looked quite good, almost like a
tinted window at the back. It's made from a fine black material mesh
sandwiched between two aluminium frames. The frame is attached to the
roll bar with four purpose made clips.

Rear badge. 12/05/07
Included as part of the kit is a vinyl sticker which is applied to the
rear of the car. Instead of using the Xtreme sticker my Dad
said
why don't I make a proper badge, like the one you would find on a
production car. OK I said! So, cut from a solid sheet of brass,
polished, then chrome plated, this is what he came up with.

One of the smaller bits on the car but I think
considering it's handmade, one of the most impressive of my
Dad's creations.

Enough said!
