BUILDING
A QUANTUM XTREME KIT
CAR

Build
Diary Page 14
After 12 months sitting on its build trolley the car was
lowered
to the ground. It was quite a task to get it off the trolley. It was
first jacked up to clear the trolley, then blocks of wood and car ramps
etc were placed under the wheels. Very slowly we jacked up one end then
the other, each time taking away some of the wood until it reached the
ground. In all the excitement I forgot to take
pictures. I
can't tell you how relieved I was when it got onto solid ground. A big
thanks has to go to a family friend, and engineer, Andy Anderson for
helping us that night, and his continued help and advice
throughout the build.

The spare wheel cover is held in place with two lock nuts.
The number plate will then cover the nuts. The
number plate light was fitted and wired with a detachable socket. A
rubber edging seal was added to help keep the water out, and also take
up any gaps that would cause vibration.

The front cycle arches are attached to the uprights with a
bracket which has two fixing points.
The fibre glass edges of the arches were trimmed to match the curve of
the wheel. The edge was finished off with some rubber edging.

The passenger seat and four point harness could now be
fitted.

The windscreen was next to be fitted. The rubber seals and
aluminium surround were first bonded to the windscreen and left for a
few days to cure. The windscreen was then slipped into the brackets
with more sealant and everything was tightened up. It has to be
said, sealant is messy stuff!

The garage door was opened, the engine was fired up, first
gear
was selected, and yes it drives! I drove it up and down the drive quite
a few times. Big smiles:) It looks great in the daylight.

Still got some things to do........ like filing the rear arches, bonnet
vents to make, adjusting ride height, windscreen wipers etc etc.
