Running COGREHAB - XP

How to run COGREHAB - XP from a USB drive:

When you put the USB drive into your computer, you should see a menu, the first item of which is highlighted: "CogRehab Programs".  Click <OK> to take this option.  (You are actually running an Open Source Portable Application called PSTART.EXE).  The resulting menu includes two items:  Start COGREHAB and Reports for COGREHAB.

            (1) The Start COGREHAB option invokes a program called DOSBOX.EXE (available at www.portableapps.com) to create a valid DOS environment on a Windows platform.  This is an Open Source program and we are most grateful for its use.  We renamed DOSBOX.EXE as STARTCOG.EXE because it will function much as the DOS Startcog.exe did.

o   STARTCOG starts the LSA CogRehab Patient registration screen which, in turn, leads to the COGREHAB program menu.

o   When asked for the data location (i.e., Data being saved to), press <ENTER> to designate the C: drive.  In reality, your data will go to whatever drive letter has been assigned to the USB flash memory stick, but DOSBOX allows our program to think it's using C.  Don't ask!  It works.

            (2) REPORT program:  To review and print results, the COGREHAB programs will save the results to a disk file (on a virtual C: drive).  Do NOT attempt to print the results directly from within the COGREHAB task (e.g., after completing FASTREAD).  When you finish the COGREHAB task and are returned to the menu box, run the REPORT program.  You will be running the REPORT program directly, not through DOSBOX.  What this means is that when REPORT asks for the data location, you will select the actual drive letter (e.g., E: or F: etc.) assigned to the flash memory stick.

            (3) IMPORTANT for users of the USB flash memory stick:  When you are done, it is essential that you prepare the USB memory stick for safe removal.  We have facilitated this by including a menu item.  Run this option and WAIT until a message pops up indicating that it is now safe to remove the stick.  This will take longer than seems necessary.  Be patient.  Wait at least a full minute.
