To become a part of the Collective of Geniuses... You can be a CoG or a Gear. The major difference is CoG's pay monthly and utilize the space to make art more often. Gears pay yearly and are generally more likely to come to an event than utilize the space. The Collective of Genuises depends on the support of our gears and cogs, they are what keep the Factory operating. Gears support our mission. Gears come to our events. Gears donate yearly. Benefits include access to our northwest queer arts listserve, pre-sale opportunities to purchase tickets and enroll in classes, and a listing on our benefactors page on our website. CoG's support our mission statement. CoG's identify with the trans~queer community either as an individual or as an ally. They look to create a community of honor and respect for (gender) self-expressions. CoGs make art. CoGs use the Factory. CoG's give money monthly. Benefits include access to our nw queer arts listserve, our Queer Artists Round Tables. pre-sale opportunities to purchase tickets and enroll in classes, and a listing on our CoGs page on our website. It can also include discounted rentals and discounted open studio/class fees. CoG’s have the privilege to petition to the Board for sponsorship, which includes reduced rates and administration type assistance. To officially become a CoG, you must submit an application (hurry the $15 application fee will be waived until May 1st). No one will be turned away for lack of funds, please come speak with us about other options. All new CoGs are approved by the Board at the monthly meetings. Click here to become a CoG. - Trac CoG: $40-$75 and zero to two volunteer hours per month sliding scale: Benefits: attend 4 open studios a month or a single two hour rehearsal block*; a three month trial membership in Queer ART (Artist Round Table, see below) (*Not valid for teaching class of 2 or more people.)
- Road CoG: $100-$200 and zero to six volunteer hours per month sliding scale: Benefits, 10 open studios or 4 open studios a month plus one 2 hour rehearsal or 6 hours rehearsal type usage a month, etc.*; access the Queer ART (Artist Round Table, see below) (*Not valid for teaching class of 2 or more people. Must be used in chunks of at least two hours.)
- Touring CoG: $250-$5000 and zero to ten volunteer hours per month sliding scale: Benefits, generous access to open studio or 25 hours of rehearsal type usage or some variation therein*. access the Queer ART (Artist Round Table, see below). Special discounts on equipment fees. (*Not valid for teaching class of 2 or more people.)
Work Trade for CoG fees are available for only special circumstances and must be negotiated through the Board and are not included in the work trade budget. Other shifts in policies governing Collective Status can be negotiated through the Board of Directors. Scheduling of Private hours are made through the Scheduling Coordinators (Jack and Smitty), preferred hours might not be available. Rehearsal times are generally available Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm. Evening and weekend time slots are available and to be negotiated through the scheduling coordinator and the board and usually start at the general community fee level without additional discounts. CoGs must reapply for membership after 6 months of non-usage unless pre-approved through the Board.
Open Studio Wednesdays: 12:30pm to 3:30pm: $12-20 drop in. Rotating medium/topic. Materials often but not always included but often available for purchase.
