"Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice. Justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love."
The arts are a powerful means by which we can exercise our human right to freedom of speech and expression. Not everyone has this freedom. Some people are not allowed to have a voice because their oppressors won't let them speak out. Others don't feel strong enough to stand against the overwhelming tide of injustice they face. This is where artists and creative people can make a difference. We can use our artistic and creative talents to touch people's emotions and capture their imaginations with messages that bring home the reality of other peoples' suffering. We don't believe that we alone are going to change the world. But we can contribute to bringing about a more peaceful and just world. We believe that through artistic events and performances we can bring attention to issues that matter and galvanise public support for movements against injustice. Both locally and around the world. A movement that deserves our support is STOP THE TRAFFIK.
STT is a global coaltion of people and organisations committed to seeing the eradication of human trafficking - a slavery-like practice. From the early stages of its existence, Codia has supported STT in its efforts to rally millions of people into action against this deplorable crime. We continue our support of STT by working to raise awareness of slavery and slave-like practices (including human trafficking) through Codia events and other activities. |
