About Codia

The "vision" for Codia began with a desire to demonstrate our Christian faith in action by promoting social inclusion and unlocking people's potential through the arts.  That's the reason why
Codia is an abbreviation for: "Creative Opportunities Development and Innovation Agency".  After taking a slightly different direction with Codia Community Interest Company, we have decided to return to our roots and start a new voluntary organisation, which is still called 'Codia', but which is all about our calling to the arts.

Our Organisation:

Codia is a voluntary organisation based in Preston, Lancashire.  It was born out of the original vision behind Codia Community Interest Company, but is a separate and independent organisation.

Codia is 'not-for-profit'.  That means that the organisation has no shareholders and that any surplus money generated is ploughed back into its activities.  Our aim is to register Codia as a charity, but we can only register with the Charity Commission when our income has been greater than £5,000.  Financially speaking, we're not quite there yet, but once we're over the £5K mark we're going to apply for charitable registration.

In preparation for registration we have adopted a Constitution based upon a Charity Commission model.   The Constitution is a set of rules which governs how Codia is run.  The Committee of trustees responsible for looking after the governance and management of Codia has to work within the framework of these rules.  All trustees are volunteers who give up their time without pay.

Our Goals:

  • Inclusion:  promoting access to the arts, particularly for disabled people

  • Justice:  using the arts to raise public awareness of justice issues, such as human trafficking

  • Community:  building a faith community made up of artists and ordinary people who have in common the desire to make a positive difference
