Rules and Expectations

Colfax-Mingo Middle School

Physical Education: Mr. Christner, Instructor

District’s Mission

For each student is to foster lifelong learners, independent thinkers, and productive citizens contributing in a dynamic, diverse world.

Philosophy

I want students to be physically active throughout their lives.  To achieve this goal, we will focus on Lifetime Physical Activities and concepts along with some traditional team games and sports.  The main goal is educating students and developing skills that will help them be active throughout their lives.

 Class Expectations

1.      Be in the gym before the bell rings and quickly get dressed in the locker room with appropriate P.E. clothes every day.

2.      Equipment set up or set out for activity should be left alone until the appropriate time when we are ready to start the activity.

3.      Listen to instructions the first time they are given.

 Classroom Rules

 The Three R’s-

Respect Yourself

Respect Others

Respect Equipment

 Classroom Procedures

1.      Each day student will come in and get changed in the locker room.  Be prompt and have appropriate clothing for Physical Education.  Once student has P.E. clothes on, student is expected to be in the gym area not in the locker room.

2.      We will start class with a general warm up or a warm up specific to the day’s activity.

3.      After the warm up, there will be a short instruction time or if no instructional time is needed, we will get right into the activity for the day.

4.      Close to the end of the period, student will be excused to go shower and change.  If student gets ready before the bell rings, they should stay in the gym until the bell rings.

 Dress Policy

During class, we will be moving so it is important that the student is comfortable and able to participate in clothes that are appropriate for Physical Education class.  For hygiene concerns, we require all students to change tops and bottoms for Physical Education.

-          Clothing must also meet District and School Dress Policy

Expected Dress-

1.      Athletic shoes: No sandals, skater shoes, boots, slip-ons, or dress shoes.

2.      T-shirt that cover the deltoid and abdominal regions. (No cutoff shirts or tank tops)

3.      Athletic shorts or pants: Jogging and sweatpants are acceptable ( No jean or khaki shorts/pants)

4.      Sweatshirts and long sleeved shirts are optional: For days when it might be a little chilly, but we are still able to enjoy the outdoors.

5.      Towel: Provide your own.  Showers are not required during P.E., but for hygiene purposes they are highly recommended for the well being of student and other students.

 No Dress/Absent/Tardies

The 1st, 2nd unexcused tardies will be a warning.  The 3rd unexcused tardy will result in a detention.

If your child is absent from P.E. they will be required to make up that day.

Students are required to dress out for P.E. each day, if they forgot their clothes I have clothes they can borrow for that day.  All the borrowed clothes get washed every night.
