Cloud Computing Group FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why can't I post to the group?

Answer:

In short, people receiving invitations must both validate their e-mail address
and click the second link to obtain a Google Groups account before
they have full memberships.

This is modus operandi for Google Groups, that we can't affect effectively.

2. Why some of my posts to the group are not displayed?

Answer 1:

This group is moderated to preserve your personal mailboxes from spam, members' auto-responder messages and meaningless posts (e.g. where author's signature exceeds message body considerably) and at moderators personal discretion.

Try to avoid posts similar to one below:

==========================================

Agree. {Yes|Cool|Why| }

best regards,

My Name

My Title

My Blog

My Company Website

Phone Number

Cell Number

E-mail

Twitter

Facebook

My Pet's Photos

==============================

Answer 2: Another reason might be pure marketing information or some really personal information (that is not necessarily exciting for other list members - your new haircut, tattoo, travel etc).

Answer 3: Cut and paste of large text pieces from external sources without expressing own opinion or decent commenting.

Answer 4: Promotion of events:

a) distantly related to cloud computing;

b) aiming single person/organization promotion;

c) have low quantity of valuable content available for public discussion;

d) in case of conferences, it is advised to have early event announcement (at least 2-3 months) with information about speakers, submission deadlines, companies, topics, proceedings etc available for public observation before and after event.

Answer 5:  Rarely Google shows no message body for perfectly valid posts. It is hard to know, why this happens and what is inside, so it is deleted. If you think this is the case, please send copy of message to cloudmoderator@gmail.com with explanation.

3. How do I reduce number of e-mails from the group?

Answer:

If you have gmail account, it gives you an option to self-manage delivery options:

No Email,

Every Email,

Daily Digest.

We expect members to give input into discussion and default setting is receiving every e-mail. If you have non-gmail account, and want to change delivery type, please send request to cloudmoderator@gmail.com.

4. How do I ask question or make a suggestion?

Answer:

If you have questions, not covered on this page, write to cloudmoderator@gmail.com

Special note: please don't send e-mails to most active members, they are not admins and are irritated by irrelevant requests.

5. Why does it take so long for my post to appear?

Answer:

This is not real time(mission critical etc) message board. Please allow some time to process your post. It might span from several hours to several days, same as responses to your post might naturally arrive in several weeks (say, respondents discovered it only 3 weeks/month later and decided to participate). It is unrare in internet, that topic lifecycle spans years.

6. Why was I removed from the group?

Answer:

Some accounts show up as bouncing messages from the group. These accounts will be removed to offload local and target servers.

If this happens with your account and you think it is an error, please re-apply for membership in the group.

7. How do you manage my personal information?

Answer:

All your personal information at LinkedIn.com Groups is managed under LinkedIn.com Privacy PolicyFor more information, read their full privacy policy.

LinkedIn participates in the EU Safe Harbor Privacy Framework and is certified to meet the strict privacy guidelines of the European Union. All relationships on LinkedIn are mutually confirmed, and no one appears in the LinkedIn Network without knowledge and explicit consent.

=======

Google Groups part is managed under Google's Privacy Policy. See also an update Google Groups Privacy Notice.

We strongly recommend you to not put some of your personal information like number of cell/mobile phone, when making posting to the group.

Your posting is placed to the group web archive exposed to any internet user. If you think this happened to you, it might me good to remove such information from the posting, if unable to do it yourself - write to cloudmoderator@gmail.com with explanation(please use same address, that original posting was done from).

8. Do you use safe and secure infrastructure?

Answer:

We have basically two parts:

LinkedIn and Google Groups, both are secure, considerably reliable, managed and bonded. (I'll try to get specifics on SLAs from both providers and update this part). See also Google Groups Terms of Service.

We do not use intermediate proxy services hosted by third parties, due to many reasons like lack of security, scalability, resources, unreliable hardware/software/ISP/tech support etc. We believe such threats could lead to grave consequences. Also intermediate proxy services might be used to do 'invisible' pre-moderation of in-flight messages (after message has been sent, but before it reaches final endpoint). We are against such unfair tactics (of claiming non-moderated group with potential to breach it and no certified audit procedures) and do not use such methods.
