The goal of the Pendergrass Library Veterinary Student Wiki is to experiment with an alternative way of delivering information to students in the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Traditionally, recommended library resources are listed in subject guides, which are static and must be updated by librarians. Like traditional subject guides, the wiki contains organized reference information. Unlike traditional subject guides, students can participate and edit the resources in the wiki themselves. Inspiration for the project came about when the Veterinary reference librarian, Ann Viera, noticed that the students we serve, who are advanced in their information seeking, frequently find and suggest new resources. A wiki seemed the best solution for eliminating the time lag between student’s suggestions and librarian-mediated web page updates. The goal of the library is to provide information for students in the quickest and most efficient manner possible, and this wiki is an attempt to better provide those services.
