Database Tips:
- Articles in the journals listed above and in other journals can be
found in databases suggested below. All
are accessible from the database menus (http://www.lib.utk.edu:90/databases/)
- Please ask a reference librarian for assistance
in choosing or searching databases.
- For articles on the behavior of domestic/farm or companion animals, try CAB ABSTRACTS
first. Please note: CAB ABSTRACTS is a British
database. British spellings are
preferred. Please remember to
search for both spellings of the word (behavior or behaviour) or
truncate the word by typing an * after the v (behav*). Truncating the word will also retrieve
behavioral/behavioural, and any other endings of the word, which will enhance
retrieval. Need help? the CABI Thesaurus at http://www.cabi.org/cabthesaurus.
- AGRICOLA, Animal Behavior Abstracts, MEDLINE,
PsychInfo, BIOSIS, and Web of Science may also have relevant
articles.
- For articles
on the behavior of zoo, exotic,
wild, or laboratory animals, consider searching Wildlife Worldwide,
Biological Abstracts, or MEDLINE first.
CAB ABSTRACTS, AGRICOLA, Animal Behavior Abstracts, or Web of
Science. PsychInfo may also contain
relevant articles.
- Once you have identified the best articles on a topic, consider a
cited reference search in Web of Science
(http://www.lib.utk.edu/agvet/webscience.html). Cited reference searching is a good
compliment to searching the other databases listed above. Ask a reference librarian for a
demonstration of cited reference searching or see the tutorial within Web
of Science. When searching Web of
Science for behavior articles, remember to select both Science Citation
Index and Social Sciences Citation Index, because behavior articles may be
found in both science and social science journals.
