Book Grants

Grants are intended to contribute to the building of a library of lasting value in support of the recipients' ministry of preaching and teaching. It also aims to help those who show promise of enriching the Church in the sphere of theological scholarship.

Grants are not given for:
  • ephemeral publications and books that are likely only to be of short-term use;
  • liturgical books, as distinct from books about liturgy and worship;
  • books which have been purchased before an application has been approved.
The book grant award limit is currently set at £600 per annum. If a book grant is made, it will lapse if not taken up within six months.

Candidates may choose titles from the Church House Bookshop list at www.chbookshop.co.uk. Alternatively they may request books from other suppliers, in which case they may be asked to purchase the approved titles themselves and be reimbursed on submission of receipts.

It is advised that the content of the booklist is discussed with a tutor prior to submission.  The trustees will only give grants for books that they consider to be of lasting theological value, and reserve the right to remove unsuitable books from the list or reject an entire list. Where books are required for a particularly specialised or unusual area of study an accompanying letter explaining your choices may be of some help.
