Folks Out Door Wood Fired Boilers Pollute.

This is not a problem with Wood Stoves, Pellet Stoves and Fireplaces, these wood burning devices are USEPA approved and tested for heating homes.  See http://www.epa.gov/Compliance/resources/publications/monitoring/caa/woodstoves/certifiedwood.pdf for a list of USEPA certified wood burning devices.

In October 2004 we contacted Commissioner Bill Hager; again in the early part of 2005 we contacted Commissioner Bill Hager and Barbara Huston.  At that time there were probably less than 25 units in LaPorte County. TODAY THERE ARE OVER 124 UNITS NOT INCLUDING THE GASIFICATION UNITS, which also pollute and are not certified by the USEPA as well.

Why did Commissioner Huston state to the News Dispatch that she believes people who have complained about the OWB’s have legitimate concerns?  “I feel sorry for these people” Huston said “they have the right to clean air.  That’s something we all have a right to.”  News Dispatch 04/06/07.

Yes the commissioners passed an ordinance 2007-10-B which uses OPACITY as a regulatory tool.  You read opacity during the daylight hours especially on bright sunny days.  That means that 75% out of a 24 hour period there are no regulatory tools.  Another blunder or was it.

Commissioner Bill Hager when asked February 17, 2008 said he is satisfied with the Ordinance.  He should not be it does nothing   He has been presented with reams of overwhelming evidence that these units are harmful to residents especially to the young.  The American Lung Association State of the Air report 2008 for LaPorte County states that there are over 50,000 residents affected by bad air quality.  http://www.stateoftheair.org/

Ask the commissioners for clean air for Your vote.   Ask Governor Mitch Daniels why he has sat on the STATE New Rules to regulate them since late 2005.  He wants your vote too.

This is our home (LaPorte County) let’s make it better and cleaner.
