3. Student Publishing

Basic Publishing

  • Wikispaces or Google Sites - Have students easily publish content online using a wiki.  Here is an example from my World History classes.  Students can all contribute to a single site, have group sites, or individual ones depending upon the project.

Document Collaboration

  • Google Docs - Have students create documents together in Google Docs.

Online Discussions/Blogging

  • Ning - This is one of the faster growing social network tools available online. Administrators have the power to make it a closed network or open it up for all to see and/or participate. Features including messaging, sharing content, forums, etc. While it is blocked in the district, you can have your specific Ning site unblocked.
  • Google Groups - If you are already using other Google tools and wish to just hold online discussions, Google Groups is for you.
  • Edublogs - With this blogging service (which uses the Wordpress software) you can actually set up accounts for all of your students - giving you the ability to monitor and control them.  Or you can have your students set them up on their own.

Video

  • uStream - Want to create your own live broadcast channel?  Well, uStream is the tool that can do this.  You can broadcast your webcam live.  Anytime, anywhere.  Want to invite parents to watch a presentation? uStream it!  You can limit access to those your designate and you can record your session.
