Screening the Past Film History Journal Classic Movies site Lucille Ball went on to become the first woman to head up her own production studio, Desilu Productions, with husband Desi Arnaz. Arlene Dahl was known as "the face made for Technicolor" because of her red hair and bright blue eyes. Now known primarily as the ex-wife of Fernando Lamas and mother of Lorenzo Lamas.
Susan Hayward was great in emotional roles in 1950s movies. She starred as a mental patient, alcoholic, and long-suffering wife.
Ann-Margaret was known as a beauty, but she made her leading men look like great actors, from Elvis Presley to Art Garfunkel to Anthony Hopkins and then Walter Matthau.
