Clarksville Presyterian Church is located in the town of Clarksville, Virginia.  The town proper has about 1,400 people with an additional 6,000 living within five miles of the town.
Ideally located on John Kerr Reservoir, often called Bugg's Island or Kerr Lake, the reservoir has 800 miles of shoreline on the Virginia and North Carolina borders.  The town of Clarksville is conveniently located about one hour from Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, two hours from Richmond, and about an equal distance from Virginia Beach to the east and the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.  The lake provides great opportunities for camping, water-related sports, hiking, and nature watching in the parks and along the lake.

Clarksville is in the heart of what was once the tobacco-growing region of Virginia. In addition, textiles were a major industry.  The area has evolved into a tourism and retirement community as those traditional industries have declined. Many people who come to live on the lake in retirement have been able to do so at a relatively young age. This has brought a great deal of energy and a wealth of varied experiences to the greater community and to our church.

The changing economy has also attracted businesses that are focused on quality of life issues. Some of these businesses are modest, with the staff working from home via the use of the internet. Others are larger, such as EDS, a division of Hewlett-Packard, which remodeled the former Russell-Stover candy factory.
