Set in the heart of Ireland, in the historic village of Castletown Geoghegan this beautifully refurbished bungalow will make an excellent base for your exploration of the Irish Midlands. Located midway between Dublin and Galway this country getaway is ideally situated between the towns of Athlone, Mullingar, Tullamore and Longford. Within walking distance, the village has a church, a well stocked grocery shop, post office and three cozy country pubs.
With Lough Ennel less then a five minute drive away you are within easy striking distance of a pitch and putt course, fishing, boating, water sports at the Jonathon Swift Park and Lilliput Adventure Centre. For lovers of golf the area has numerous top quality golf courses including Mullingar Golf Club, New Forest in Tyrrellspass, Moate and Glasson. The nearby town of Kilbeggan is the home of the oldest Irish whiskey distillery with its own visitors centre & museum. Kilbeggan race meetings are held throughout the summer season.
There are plenty of modern amenities in the major towns in the area, cinemas, swimming pools, leisure centers, bowling and horse riding. For those with an interest in local history, the house is situated across the road from one of Ireland’s finest examples of a Motte and Bailey dating from Norman times. The village is named after the McGeoghegan family, extensive landowners disposed in Cromwellian times. Their coat of arms can be seen on a headstone in the old R.C. graveyard. The Church of Ireland graveyard is the burial place of Arthur Boyd Rochfort recipient of the Victoria Cross, Medal of Honour for Valour during the First World War. His family were the original owners of Middleton Park House which is now an exclusive wedding venue & fine dining restaurant. For those interested in more recent history it was in the local village hall that Joe Dolan performed at his first dance for the local hurling club. Joe went on to worldwide fame & his life-size statue can be seen in Mullingar.
The house consists of four double bedrooms (sleeps 8), three of which are en-suites, main bathroom, kitchen and a separate living/dining room with glazed doors to a private terrace with a seating area and a private enclosed garden. This is strictly a non-smoking house. A welcome pack awaits you and all linen and towels are supplied. Oil heating is provided and the living area also features a solid fuel wood burning stove. |

Had a fantastic stay on the weekend of 27th of August. We were the first guests in this home & found the facilities exellent. We were attending a family wedding at Middleton Park House and Clarkes Self Cateringwas the ideal location for our weekend stay. There were four couples in our party and the accomodation was ideal. Each couple had their own ensuite / bathroom and all our needs were catered for. The Welcome Pack provided more than enough for our breakfast and snacks & also contained bottles of both still & sparkling water which were greatly appreciated 'the morning after'. Middleton Park Courtsey Bus left us back to the house when the celebrations were over, so we did not need to worry about Taxis which was great. As the house was in the village we were able to stroll down to the local pubs & meet our friends the night before. WE WILL BE BACK!!! Frank & Orla
