Here is the (Yoga) biography page"The tribute to learning is teaching." I read that on a tea bag, but that's actually what I'm doing, transmitting the wisdom of my teachers and that of their teachers, and of their teachers, all the way back to where Yoga began. Philosophically Teaching Hatha Yoga is practical training for freedom. Using simple movements, the placement of feet, limbs, weight, attention, by studying and guiding the breath, we concentrate, clear obstructions, change habits, promote health and discovery. Mind and body are one. In my classes, you'll find folks of all descriptions and experience -- men, women, healthy, recovering from injury or illness, pregnant, parenting -- practicing together with some joy and sense of relief. Given the mix, not everyone may be doing the same thing: each of us deserves the practice that's right. Practice and Teachers My own asana practice began around 1990 in Seattle with Kathleen Hunt. I've been studying Yoga with Susannah Bruder of Yoga Sita since 1999 and hold a certificate for 400 hours of teacher training with her, with which I began to teach in 2006. I received a mantra for meditation in 1976, and have had a love of movement for at least this lifetime. While my studies with Susannah continue, I train in Shadow Yoga with Andy Matinog and Mark Horner. Special Interests and Gifts Of course I am interested in things other than Yoga classes, like my beautiful wonderful dog Kittery, music (I perform), food (making, baking, serving, brewing, farming), reading, books, and bikes, not necessarily in that order. I'm infinitely grateful for friends and family. What I Like In A Student Colorful histories encouraged and enjoyed. I honor Soul, so please bring yours to class. |
