First Grade News from Mrs. Davis

                                                                                                       October

Dear Parents,

November is here!  Which means, excitement will begin to fill the air...again!  First graders love Halloween, and now we have Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to think about.  And somehow, in all of this excitement, I still have to teach them what they need to be ready for second grade.  These are challenging times for early elmentary teachers.  Hopefully, we will continue with our progress and still have fun during these special times of the year.

Thank you for your help with the Fall Festival, those that contributed time and energy.  The children had fun, and the PTA did make money, which in turn, helps the school and your children.  Thank you for sending in the treats and goodie bag items.  The children were thrilled with all of their treasures.

Report cards will be sent home Tuesday, November 6.  I am proud of the progress so far, but we still have a long way to go.  Continue listening to your child read at home, especially if they are still struggling with word recognition and fluency.  Accelerated Reading is a great way to improve this, so encourage your child to read and take AR tests.

We are working on math facts, with our final goal to be able to do 50 in a minute with %100 correct.  Flash cards are a great way to practice this, and if you do not have any, they make great stocking stuffers.

Writing is improving daily.  The story summaries are getting better and better.  The rubric will be changing, but it will still help you to see what I am looking for in their writing.

Thank you for your support and copperation!
