Cheryl LaneLI 880: Capstone PortfolioMaster of Library ScienceEmporia State UniversityThis project is a culmination of my work while completing my Master's Degree in Library Science at Emporia State University through their SLIM program. I was a third grade classroom teacher in Emporia for 12 years, and then looped up with a class and taught fourth grade for two more years. During those last two years of teaching, I knew I wanted to do something different, yet stay in the elementary school setting. I loved reading and books, so I decided that I should pursue the SLIM program at ESU. I began my Master's Degree in the fall of 2005. I was also fortunate that fall to begin my new career as a librarian for two intermediate buildings in Emporia, which housed the fifth and sixth grade classes. I discovered that I loved the library, but I did yearn to return to the elementary setting. My luck came through once more, in the spring of 2006, when an elementary librarian position opened up in my former school in which I taught in for 14 years! The job was part-time in that building, and part-time in another elementary building. I felt blessed!
I truly believe that the SLIM program at ESU has helped prepare me to become the best elementary librarian I could be.
