Christel Kendzia, Music Teacher
Christel Kendzia is from Bath, Maine. She is a graduate from Morse High School (2002). Christel attended the University of Maine, Orono from 2002 to 2006. At UMaine, she studied the Clarinet and Music Education with an Instrumental concentration. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Prior to graduation from UMaine, Christel did her student teaching with the MSAD #75 school system. Ensembles that Christel has performed with are listed below: Bath Municipal Band, Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, Casco Bay Band, UMaine Black Bear Marching Band, UMaine Pep Band, UMaine Orchestra, UMaine Symphonic Band, UMaine Concert Band, UMaine Singers, UMaine Chamber Ensembles, UMaine-"Chicago" Pit Orchestra, and Cabin Fever Theater. She currently plays Clarinet with the all female Dixieland Band, Six-Basin Street and Alto Saxophone with a new and upcoming Jazz Combo from Deer Isle called, Christel's Blue Persuasions. Christel is the music teacher at the Deer Isle-Stonington Schools. She teaches K-5 Grade General Music, 4-5 Grade Beginning Band, and 6-8 Grade Band, 6-8 Grade Chorus, 9-12 Grade Band, and 9-12 Grade Chorus. Christel teaches private clarinet, saxophone, flute, and piano lessons. She has also worked at the Merrymeeting Band Camp in Brunswick, Maine, Maine Summer Youth Music at the University of Maine, Orono, and Island Arts Camp in Deer Isle, ME. Christel is a member of the Maine Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Stonington Opera House Arts Community Advisory Board, and is an alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. Aside from music, Christel enjoys kayaking, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and cats. She enjoys working with her students and hopes that they will all continue to love music long past school. |
