IRISH BLESSING
A Family of Celtic Artists
Upcoming EventsThe Srour family has made music and dance an integral part of their lives over the last 15 years. With the encouragement of Cushla(mom),Jim(dad) took up playing the Bodhran (Irish drum) and quickly became accomplished in the rhythms of the jigs and reels that are the backbone of this music. The duo played with the group Pennyroyal for over 9 years. As the children grew up it was hard for them to avoid becoming involved. Jonathon, age 18, has been playing keyboard since he was 5. He more recently discovered a passion for the wooden flute . He began Irish step dancing at age 9 and has performed at the Meyerhoff and the Kennedy center with such acclaimed artists as the Chieftains, Eileen Ivers of Riverdance fame and Cherish The Ladies. He is currently 5th in the world and 1st in the nation for Irish step dancing.
Joshua, age 14, has developed an avid interest in the fiddle. With the help of master teachers Donna Long, Patrick Orceau, Brendan Mulvihill, Maeve Donnolly and others, he has become a fiery powerhouse of the tradition. He is an accomplished Irish Dancer and competes at the World Championships in Ireland.
With Cushla playing flute and keyboards and keeping the family motivated there are few days when music doesn't resonate through the home. Irish Blessing has been invited to play at a variety of functions from parties to festivals, fairs and funerals. Hey, they even accepted an invitation to play at the York County Coroners convention!
