The 8th graders in band have begun working on a project that will be due at the end of January. It will involve recording their playing individually, and then writing a reflection on how they did, a description of the process they took to prepare it and finally some information about their understanding of the concepts. As our school is qualifying for IB status, part of the process we must follow is to send in samples of 8th grade work. Several 8th graders will be randomly selected, and their work, along with the grades they receive on it, will be sent to the IB headquarters in Switzerland. The grades received by the students, as well as other IB grades which the 7th graders will also receive will be posted to the gradebook, translated to percentages. These grades are all determined according to a rubric for each of the types of activities the students are doing.
