The 8th graders in band have begun working on a project that will be due at the end of January. It will involve recording their playing individually, and then writing a reflection on how they did, a description of the process they took to prepare it and finally some information about their understanding of the concepts. As our school is qualifying for IB status, part of the process we must follow is to send in samples of 8th grade work. Several 8th graders will be randomly selected, and their work, along with the grades they receive on it, will be sent to the IB headquarters in Switzerland. The grades received by the students, as well as other IB grades which the 7th graders will also receive will be posted to the gradebook, translated to percentages. These grades are all determined according to a rubric for each of the types of activities the students are doing. |

Check out Mr. Weber's original music site! Here is some information he posted about it.Thank you to all the people that have been visiting the website! I have been receiving many positive emails about my music so far and it feels great. Thank you to all of the teachers that have been passing my website along to their students as a resource for new music. You have helped to make the site more and more popular. In last month's newletter I sent out a free preview copy of "A Day and Night in the Wild". This is an unaccompanied piece that I wrote for Saxophone but is playable by other instruments as well. I recently added the song to my website because I had several student musicians asking to perform it in the upcoming Solo & Ensemble Festival season. In this newletter I have attached a preview copy of "Fortress". This is a work that I wrote for my concert band a few years ago for our concert band festival. I received several favorable comments from the judges at the festival. The best one was a comment about how the students seemed to like this song the best of the three that they had prepared for this event. I think your students would enjoy this piece as well. If you still have students looking for Solo & Ensemble music I have several songs that might be of interest to them. If they find a song but need a re-arrangement to suit their instrumentation, please contact me through my website. I have already had teachers ask for a piece but need it for an Alto Saxophone and a Trumpet instead of the original Clarinet/Bass Clarinet combination that I had written. I can usually have this done quite quickly and will re-post it on the website. At my website you may see a preview of every song and listen to a complete mp3 file. This mp3 file is also available to download free for use in your classroom regardless of purchase. When you find a song that you like you may buy it and instantly download it to your printer. Once you have printed a master copy you may make as many copies as you need for your group. Every purchase also comes with a proof of purchase to print and show to MSBOA judges in case you use my music at festivals and will specifically list you as the purchaser. If you have visited other websites that allow you to download original music I'm sure you'll see that my website is quite competitive. Some sites don't make their downloadable music any cheaper than if you were to buy it at their store. You think they would since you are supplying the paper and ink. I've also seen sites that don't have anything to preview other than a title and price. Thanks for your support, Nathan A. Weber Owner/Publisher/Composer Weber PDF Music www.weberpdfmusic.com |

Welcome Back Everyone, and thank you for coming to our web site. At the City House, I gave out a handout which is also available here as an attachment. If you would like to see it, just click!
Also, please check the calendar for posted dates. The end of September means the deadline for middle school solo/ensemble registration, as well as All State audition registration.
Our new fundraiser is the Grand Rapids coupon book, and it is a beauty. The books sell for $20 each, and should pay for themselves with only a few of the coupons within.
Please let our CBOP parent leaders know if you are willing to offer your assistance with things like concert stage setup, chaperoning bus trips, etc.
Thanks, and have a great school year! |
