Politics and Pancakes

Politics and Pancakes

About the documentary

"Politics and Pancakes" began with an idea of presenting changing attitudes toward politics through the influence of friends. Ultimately, it came to focus on Bob and Foster, two long-time friends who are part of a breakfast club that meets weekly at a local drug store. After Foster decided to run for city office, he and Bob talked at length about what it means to be involved in the community, what it means to vote, and what it means to be friends.

About the creators

Jaymon Bell:
I don’t claim to be a part of any political party. I just try to vote for the candidate that I feel best represents my outlook on the world. I was stationed on Balad Air Base in 2004, when the last election was going on. What ever happens this time, I hope Iraqi college students will be able to produce a film about citizenship in their country sometime soon!!

Bob Bruner: In 1972, when Nixon’s administration went down, Bob concluded that politics was a self-serving profession filled with dishonest people, and he stopped voting. That same fall, as a freshman in college, Bob joined a fraternity and became enamored of the ideals of brotherhood. In 2007, when a fraternity brother decided to run for office, Bob agreed he would return to the polls in November 2008.

This film is dedicated to Bob, who died unexpectedly in March 2008.
