Becoming an Active Citizen
About the documentary
"Becoming an Active Citizen on UT’s Campus" is about citizenship on campus at the University of Tennessee.
Through interviews with three model citizens—Rachel Dellinger, Kathy Freyhauf, and
Merry Ann Chipkevich—this film offers three different stories of involvement, and three different
examples of organizations that UT students can join.
If this film has a message, it's that lessons about citizenship learned
in clubs, groups, and campus organizations can be as important as lessons learned in the classroom.
About the creator, Alyssa Phillips
My first year at UT,
I was not very involved in any aspect of campus life. Other than attending
class and football games, I did little as an active citizen.
My second year, I joined a sorority, and that led me to get involved in other groups, including Relay For Life, Dance Marathon,
Intramural Sports, and events hosted by Greek organizations. After
getting involved with these groups, I realized how important it is for
every student to be an active citizen on their campus.
