Our Voice, Our Vote

Our Voice, Our Vote

About the documentary

The title of this film, Our Views, Our Voice, signifies our desire to represent our peers' many different views on citizenship, while at the same time we want to represent the dedication and dynamism of our peer group as a whole.

The hear to this piece are our 6 interviewees: Wilson, Josh, Jacob, Nina, Reagan, and Dani. All  students at UT-Knoxville, they represent a variety of civic involvement, including SPEAK (Students Promoting Environmental Action in Knoxville), Army ROTC, Amnesty International, and NCAA Division I athletics. This grouop also represents a wide variety of majors; Wilson is a senior in Environmental Science; Josh is a junior in Political Science; Jacob is a junior in History; Nina is a senior in College Scholars; Reagan is a junior
in Environmental Science, and Dani is a junior in Nursing.

As a result of our participants’ diversity, their individual views easily stand out, and together they create a voice that we hope will inspire young people to become active citizens.

About the creators, Lindsay Ehrlich, Lauren Eppolito, and Nicole Pettigrew

Our Views, Our Voice began as a course assignmen. Our task was to create a piece of rhetoric/argument in the form of a video documentary centering on any aspect of citizenship. With the interest of interviewing our peers as opposed to other members of the community, we decided to create a video that would reflect contemporary issues in citizenship and would hopefully inspire action in our audience. As a group, we felt that our different backgrounds and social groups helped us find a diverse group of interviewees. And through this diversity, we hoped to find an overall “voice” for our collective views. While we are not advocating any particular political or social position, one thing is clear to us: we hope this film can raise awareness about of the power and potential we have to make change as leaders of our communities.
