Reduce, Reuse, Ridiculous?
About the documentary
There are nearly 27,000 students at UT, and the average human being produces around 4.5 pounds of waste per day. That means UT students produce roughly 60 tons of waste daily. But students can reduce this amount if they change their habits and introduce recycling into their daily
routine.
"Reduce, Reuse, Ridiculous?" encourages UT students to recycle. The film shows how the administration has made recycling easier on campus, and it shows how the city of Knoxville has made recycling easy for students who live in the community. Ultimately, this film shows UT students how they can be active citizens by recycling and changing the
environment for the better.
About the creator, Holly Ritchhart
I
was once the girl who joked, “Please, I know the three
R’s of recycling: reduce, reuse, ridiculous!” However,
once I came to college I noticed that my environmentally-friendly
cohorts were not living insanely different lives from my own. The only difference was that they
deposited their trash in labeled bins and took it to the recycling center
once a week. As
I became more interested in the topic, I discovered
a lot of disturbing facts, which made me want to take action. But more than anything, it was my friends’ examples that
convinced me to recycle, and hopefully viewers will agree: recycling
is an easy way to contribute to society and to the environment.
