Student Activism Through PSA
About the documentary
For this film, we talked to local activists, including County Commissioner Mark Harmon, who is a teacher at UT, and members of the Progressive Student Alliance, a UT student group focused on social issues such as the anti-war movement.
Our general aim was to show citizenship in action and more specifically to show students in action. We also wanted to show that young students are not as apathetic as some people say. And last we wanted this documentary to show some of the outlets UT students have if they share similar, progressive ideas.
About the creators
Abby Lee: I have always enjoyed helping and supporting causes that I believe in. One of my first steps in doing this as an adult was voting at age 18. I am not an activist but if there is something I can do to promote the things I believe in I will do it.
Kevin Stevens: I think it’s fairly
easy to be a contributing citizen. I was brought up instilled with the
importance of promptly paying taxes, voting, serving my country when necessary, and contributing to charities both monetarily
and with my time.
