About this documentary
Fort Sanders is a residential
area in Knoxville, Tennessee, where there are many low income and impoverished citizens who need
food assistance. Redeemer Church of Knoxville, located on Seventeenth
and Highland in the heart of the Fort Sanders community, has begun a food pantry to help fill the need.
As Redeemer church seeks to
serve citizens in need of food, their hope is that Food in the Fort will eventually gain its own standing in the community.
Through this film I hope to
provide you, the viewer, with a concret example of what citizenship
can be or what it looks like, and to possibly move those who view it
into action. This could mean that you as a viewer are moved into your
own action, such as forming a food pantry near you, or participating
in one near you. Or this could mean that you would like to take part
in Food in the Fort. Either way I hope by this film that you will be prompted and inspired into action of some kind.
About the creator, Samuel Moody
A citizen must be proactive;
not waiting for something such as a charity, or organization to fall
into their laps, but seeking to better the community on their own accord. As a teenager, I was often
encouraged and reminded by my dad to serve and give back to the community.
He is the head of the board for Habitat for Humanity, amongst other
things, and my mom worked for the American Cancer Society. When I came to Knoxville, I
was really looking for something to get plugged into and there are many ministries that help the homeless and low income families in Knoxville. As a citizen, I chose to go find them.
Food in the Fort has seen the hunger of low income residence in their community, and has chosen to help them by providing food twice a month.
To me these are our model citizens, and I am very glad to be a part
of this ministry.
