Connie Shiflet has
been at Middletown City Schools since 1998 following her service with
Middletown Christian Schools where she taught junior high and senior high art
for four years. Since 2005 she serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Photography,
Art History and Studio Art for Indiana Wesleyan University at their regional
campuses in Dayton, Cincinnati and Richmond, Indiana. She has conducted teacher-training
presentations for Miami University Hamilton focusing on integrating ESL into lesson
plans, using Art to connect to academic disciplines. She participates in Professional Learning Communities
with fellow teachers and administrators in her school district and she continues to serve in numerous administrative
capacities associated with District Equity planning, CIP Planning, and Building Plan Leadership. Since joining these
groups, she has participated in peer workshops with other teachers, school
administrators and other school districts.
Her involvement with the Teaching
American History program led to her selection as one of the first Trainers for
the Midwest Region of the Library of Congress-Teaching Primary Source’s. Her other
professional training areas include Photography-digital and 35 mm and Basic Computer
and Internet skills for classroom success. She currently teaches students to use electronic
components in her classes in order to collaborate and conduct research as well
as develop printing and editing skills and information products. Her training
also focuses on the Stripling Model of Inquiry Process and the Marzano
Instructional Strategies for critical analysis and project based learning
lessons. She also conducts multiple student Art shows and she has participated
in public and private art exhibits. Her other group interests are the Ohio Council
for the Social Studies, Ohio Art Educators and Appalachian Studies Association.
When she has
time outside of her teaching, training and university commitments, she enjoys
photography, teaching adult Sunday School, and reading. She also loves traveling and doing activities
with her husband and her grandchildren.
Connie has a B.A. from Morehead
State University, Morehead, Kentucky and
M. Ed. from Wright State
University, Dayton, Ohio.
Connie is available for training
workshops on most weekends and evenings. Days sessions during the months of June, July and August can also
be arranged. Other times maybe
available with advance planning.
