Cihuatl Tlatocan was created by the Mujeres of MAIZ(Moviemiento de Accion Inspirando Servicio) It is a community organization
based out of San Jose. The committee is comprised of multigenerational,
bilingual and monolingual Mexicanas. It began as a volunteer committee
doing event production and is now a mass organization organizing to
address the multiple oppressions that Mexicanas face locally and
globally.
Mission:
Our mission is to foster leadership to change the social conditions of Mexican Women using education, "comadrismo", cultural, and community action.
Our vision seeks the liberation of Mexican womyn at an individual and community level, in a collective struggle towards social change.
We hope to educate, organize and motivate women to find solutions for:
* self-determination/auto-determinacion: identifying needs and solutions for and by our community
* self-representation/auto-representacion: creating positive images and realities of ourselves as mujeres
* movement/movimiento: ensuring community-building through and for family, work, school, recreation and institutions.
