I received the BS degree in Communications and Electronics from the University of Guadalajara in 1980. I obtained my Master degree in Electrical Engineering from CINVESTAV-IPN in 1987 and the PhD in Informatics form the INPG, France in 1992. I am currently a full-time professor at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Center for Computing Research, of the National Polytechnic Institute from Mexico since 1996. 

I have  more than 250 publications in international journals, books and national and international conferences. My research areas are Pattern Recognition, Image Analysis, Neural Networks and Control of Communities of Robots.

I belong to National Research System level 3.

I am a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences.
