The Flanagans - Smiling since June of 2003
Twenty years from now you will
be more disappointed by the things
you didn't do than the ones you did do.
So throw off the bow lines. Sail away
from the safe harbor. Catch the trade
winds in your sails. Explore. Dream.

I have the pleasure of teaching this classic alongside another of Babylon's finest, Mr. Jim Schappert. Barbara Small, my cooperating teacher and invaluable mentor at Babylon Middle School, recommended I read these two classics for upcoming units. Both are superb and necessary tomes for any teacher. ---------- I read Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee to quell some of the curiosities that arose while I was creating a WebQuest, which you can find under the Lessons link. ---------- Dr. Milind Wakankar of Stony Brook University's English Department recommended I read Disgrace a few summers ago; Coetzee's message and imagery are still with me today. ---------- Father Joe, by Tony Hendra: A faith bolstering, gift-of-a-read given to me by my parents. ---------- Students in some 11th and 12th grade Honors classes (as well as 34 year -old English majors) have read this unforgettable fantasy from Yann Martel. |
