Our Congregation: We are former plantation workers, professionals, students, office workers, farmers, children and retirees from many places. Our church originally drew from the adjoining plantation communities of Hakalau, Honomu and Pepeekeo, all of which were on the Sunday preaching circuit of our missionary founder, Reverend Shiro Sokabe. Today, long-time member families and newer members come from Puna, Hilo Town, and the many smaller communities in the countryside of the Hilo and Hamakua Coasts of the east side of Hawaii Island. Refreshments and fellowship time follow the Sunday church service. This is a good time to meet people and share stories. It's made even better by sharing food at the table. We're proud of our multi-cultural community. Our congregation is a reflection of that diversity of backgrounds. We work together patiently and with long-term vision to advance the presence of the church in our region of the island and reach out to share God's work with the world-wide church.
