It's Pentecost Sunday -- Wear Something Red!
Strengthen the Church Offering Received
Newsletter articles for this summer’s June-July edition are due today

Choir Practice at 9:15 am

The other day I received a lovely card in the mail from one of my friends on the Mainland. At the end of the note was one sentence that made me pause.  My friend wrote: “I am praying for you.” Knowing that someone is praying for you is a powerful and wonderful gift. How blessed we are to be loved by someone who remembers us in their prayers! And what a blessing it is to hold someone in our hearts in prayer! But here is an amazing reality-- long before you even begin to lift your thoughts to God in prayer, the Holy Spirit is there in your heart and mind, praying for you and praying through you. On this Pentecost Sunday, we’ll look at the Holy Spirit’s unique work in our prayer lives. Pastor Linda’s message, based on Romans 8:26-27, is titled When You Haven’t Got a Prayer.

Satsuki Unoki is Lay Leader. Members of Monitor Team Two serve as ushers during the Offering. Steve Rankin takes his turn as the keiki storyteller. Carole Geballe on flute joins church pianist Anthony Maroudas to play music for the heart and soul. For our Special Music, Richard Bradwell, Nancy Bradwell and Kay Black sing “Hope to Carry On.”  Following the Keiki message, children attend Sunday School in Fellowship Hall..

National Disaster Response Update

While winter may have been milder than usual, Spring is most assuredly having its way with tornadoes and severe weather. Recent tornadoes in the Dallas, TX, area crossed a huge area but UCC Churches, and members reported no deaths or major injuries. "The fact that no one died in the tornadoes is a rich blessing. Homes, things and possessions can always be replaced" reported the Rev. Douglas Anders, Conference Minister, South Central Conference of the United Church of Christ.

The latest tornadoes follow the swath of tornadoes that struck Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois February 28-29. More tornadoes and severe storms struck communities across the Midwest and Southeastern United States on March 2-3, with areas in southern Indiana, southern Ohio and northern and eastern Kentucky sustaining incredible damage. We give thanks that no United Church of Christ congregations or families sustained damage in those storms either.

One Great Hour of Sharing emergency funds have been made available to respond to each community impacted by the storms needing assistance.

OGHS emergency grants and supplies have been sent to Indiana and Kansas. In Kansas the funds will be utilized to help purchase snow fencing, T posts, barbed wire and cattle and hog panels so animals which are roaming free may again be safely corralled. Personal protection equipment for use by families and volunteers as they clean out their damaged homes is on the way to both Indiana and Kansas. Several additional requests for support are anticipated as the long-term recovery needs of the impacted communities become known.

Hawaii County Adult Daycare Satellite Facility Is Open at Hilo Coast Church in Honomu

This is the first satellite facility started by Hawaii Island Adult Care (HIAC) and a pilot program for opening similar satellite facilities around the island.  Currently, the Adult Daycare is on site approximately 2 days each week, with the option of increasing to a 5-day per week operation as the program fills up.  This enrichment and respite day care service is an effort to bring this much needed family support to a location that's more convenient to residents of the Hamakua Coast.
The staff and clients like the peaceful setting on our campus at the edge of Honomu Town.  Meals for the seniors are brought in by truck.  Administration is handled out of their main facility at the County Annex Building, which is the old hospital near Rainbow Falls.  The best part of this is:

Financial assistance is available to participants to offset the daycare fee.
