The visual art department provides diverse learning opportunities for all students at Cedarcrest High School. In the fundamentals courses students learn the basic skills and techniques to create a variety of creative projects. Along with project based learning the students learn about art history, art critique, and art's place in contemporary society. Mrs. Descheemaeker and Miss Ellinger work hard to give as much one on one help as possible. They strive to create welcoming environments for students of all abilities. There are also opportunities for students to take advanced courses in the visual art department. This fall students will have the opportunity to take Advanced Art with the option of completing the Advanced Placement Art Portfolio for college credit. Miss Ellinger Miss. Ellinger grew up right next door to Duvall in Monroe, where she graduated from Monroe High School. She was recruited to play Softball at the University of Washington where she graduated with her BA in Fine Art. After she completed her BA she went straight into graduate school at Seattle Pacific University where she completed her Masters in Teaching. This is her first year at Cedarcrest and is very excited to be surrounded with art all day long and enjoys passing on the passion of such a fun and rewarding subject. Mrs. Descheemaeker Mrs. Descheemaeker has been teaching art for six years. This is her third year teaching at Cedarcrest. She loves her job because she has the opportunity to work with great kids in a creative environment. She believes all students can benefit from taking an art class regardless of their future career plans. Learning to think creatively and critically about design, space, and images are important skills to acquire. Her classes are hands on and project based, but she also teaches art history, art critique and the philosophy of aesthetics. In her free time Mrs. Descheemaeker shows and sells her art work at regional festivals, art walks, and shops. Fundamentals of Drawing Design Basics Advanced Art & AP Art Printmaking Yearbook |
