The Chronicles of Narnia is a series of seven books written by C.S. Lewis that were published in the 1950's. They are classic fantasy stories for children. Narnia is a magical world where animals talk, mythical creatures live, and trees can move. Children from our world are transported into Narnia by magic to fight for Aslan, the protector of Narnia. During their adventures, they face great challenges and make amazing friends. Purpose and Use This pathfinder was designed for elementary and middle school students, ages 9-12. Using the materials in this pathfinder will help you locate information about The Chronicles of Narnia, the author C.S. Lewis, the world of Narnia, and England during World War II. Most of the resources here are free for anyone to look at on the Internet. Some of the books, movies, and CDs, though, aren't available online, and you'll need to check them out from your local library. Materials and Selection Process The Chronicles of Narnia is a very popular series that has been made into movies and plays many times. Not every book, movie, or website can be included here. The materials in this pathfinder were selected based on the accuracy of information, usefulness to students, and relevance to The Chronicles of Narnia. A lot of the information about Narnia online is created by groups of fans working together to make fan sites and fan encyclopedias. Only a few of the best are part of this pathfinder. This series is about a magical world, but it is also similar to our own in some ways. We can use Narnia to learn about our world. For that reason, there are materials about myths and magic, animals, and nature. Before the children begin their adventures in Narnia, they all live in England in the 1940's. You will find materials about England and World War II in this pathfinder so you can learn what the characters' lives were like before they went into Narnia. For a complete list of all the materials in this pathfinder, see the Citations page. Pathfinder created by Heather Bowman May 2010 |
