    MINISTRY BEGINNINGS

                                                                                                                                                                         Christopher praying.

My name is Jan Thompson and this is how Christopher's Hope Ministry began...

In l998, my husband of 18 years gave me the shock of my life...he filed for divorce.  At the time, we were in the process of adopting 3 more children, so I chose to continue the adoption as a single parent.  Due to the wisdom, generosity, and love of amazing friends, I was able to continue homeschooling my 3 adopted children, Amanda, Shelby, and Jacob, as well as my natural-born son, Cale.  During the next 8 years, we sang songs like "Here I am, Lord" and prayed the Prayer of Jabez to "broaden our borders".  In 2006, we went to Madison, WI to do Discipleship Training School with Youth With a Mission (YWAM).  Part of our training took us to Haiti...and while there, we felt the call of God to return.  So in 2007, a single mom and 3 teen-agers sold their house in El Dorado, KS, packed 8 suitcases and 8 carry-ons, and moved to Haiti!!  My fatherless teenagers ministered to children in a country where 80% of the children are fatherless...God is amazing!!

After moving to Gonaives, Haiti, the first family we ministered to was a single mom and her 4 children...one of them a deaf 7-year old boy named Christopher.  We brought God's "hope" to a single mom and her 4 children, so it was decided our ministry would be named "Christopher's Hope Ministry".  Even today, we continue to minister to this family...Christopher is now 12 and still attends his deaf school.  His mom has remarried and there are now 7 children in the family!!  Recently we were able to build a house for Christopher's family...God is amazing!!
